Joy Ellis is quickly becoming one of the best writers of mystery/intrigue. This book did not dissapoint. The main character, D.I Nikki Galena is surrounded by a team of believable detectives who are in persist of a deranged killer. The story moves at a fast past from beginning to end. The story begins with the death of a young police constable, Danny Wilshire and serious injury to D. C. Cat Cullen. The plot holds the reader tightly in its grip with many unexpected twists and turns. The surroundings of Cloud Fen are beautifully described allowing the reader to be a participant in the overall feel of the area. The characters are brought to light by the author whose decriptive narrative allows the reader to develop a comfort and knowledge of each personality as well as their positions on the team. This book is not a waste of time and will hold you spellbound. Don't read it if you are alone on a stormy night.Product details

Joy Ellis has never disappointed me in any of her books, and this is one of her best, for me anyway.
She concentrate more on the characters, rather than detailed police investigation, so making them lighter reading than the likes of a Harry Bosch, Inspector Banks book. There is room for both types in my reading enjoyment, and Joy Ellis is now up with Angela Marsons as a very good and consistent crime writer.
Another plus is that the clever detecting work is shared out between the lead characters and her team; each member is shown as an intelligent and important part of an investigation.
Finally a series where the woman isn't portrayed as a off kilter driven copper and as a balanced but flawed individual. That she can advance in the ranks of a bureaucracy with values intact. Though it's fiction at least it's a satisfying protagonist that can be driven but not constantly denigrated by the upper echelon. I've read 3 of the series in about 4 days while managing to work and take care of home that's how addictive it is. Almost as much as the Dragon Tattoo series.
The third installment of the Fens series was a real roller coaster ride. At one point in time it had me triple checking that I locked my door.
A whole lot happens in this story and the pace is consistent throughout. If you have read the first 2 Nikki books, you’ll love this one
The only down side for me were the various typos and errors in the electronic version I read. There were not too many that it took away from the overall story, but a few that added some confusion and frustration
I have just read three books in three days. You can't stop reading these books. They certainly tick all my boxes full of intrigue, excitement and a really brilliant story line
I’m an avid reader of Baldacci, Child, Connelly, Lescroart etc. i’ve Been looking for new authors and l found one in Joy Ellis. Since reading Hunted on the Fens, l have read another Fens book and have a third downloaded and waiting for me. Many times l don’t understand the British words but that doesn’t slow down the comprehension. I recommend reading Joy’s “Fens” books in order as characters are developed. Two more plus points...being introduced to a unique part of England (marsh lands) and paying just $2.99!

I am reading all of the Joy Ellis books in sequence and each one gets better in my opinion. This one built up slowly although the beginning threat against the police team that has featured in every book was nasty from the start. For awhile the police spin their wheels as they try to understand which old crime has unleashed a criminal who seems to be able to understand their every move. I was so drawn in that I was gnashing my teeth every time the criminal got the upper hand.
I really like all of the regular characters in the book, each one is different but so very human. Ellis writes well about the life of a detective and a police officer.
I have no quibbles about the book at all. The writing is great, tight and not padded. When the criminal was revealed I was saddened but it all made sense. It is a great police thriller and I am looking forward to reading the next one.
This is the third in the "fens series" and once again, I am taken by the locale and the way Ms. Ellis describes the fens. This backdrop really adds to the tone of the books. There are quite a bit of computer/techy issues that complicate the mystery - cybercrime, surveillance, virus etc. - and that may become tiresome for some. The main characters, Inspector Bainbridge, Nikki, Joseph, Cat, and David continue to be interesting and people to care about. The addition of Vinnie, Joseph's war buddy, was welcome and rounded out more of Joseph's background. The things that happen to the team during the course of solving the mystery are horrific and described chillingly. Ellis does have a command of words to create a tension filled mood. On the subject of words, however, I noted a surprising use of cliches. This was not obvious in the earlier books, so I do know if I just noticed it, or if it was a new thing. Because of that, and because I didn't quite believe in the villain and the motive that caused the series of events to unfold, I believe I would have taken a 1/2 str away, if possible. I expect to continue reading the series, however.
